So I got out my 24 inch rigid heddle loom to weave, looks like I’m making a narrow table runner or narrow space wall piece. It is only 10 1/2 inches wide. I had this great colorful and color changing yarn and the blues make me happy, so I started with that. Then my sister gifted. me some t-shirt yarn, something new to me! That is what is currently being used as weft in this photo, the blue and white yarn that is on the shuttle lying on top of the weaving in progress. I think it makes a nice contrast to the colorful sections of weaving. It’s easy to weave, and takes up a lot of space! I established a pattern so that the spacing of the different yarns will be consistent throughout the woven cloth.
Who knows? When I’m finished I could use the cloth to make a tote bag, or just keep it as as and find a place to hang it up. I enjoy having something in progress on the loom. Sometimes, it’s the perfect antidote to my restless nature, or helps when I’m feeling down and need a distraction. The process is easy, yet requires attention to keep the cloth even and edges clean. A nice time to listen to music too if that’s your thing. Or a podcast! We are fortunate today to have so many listening options available. If you’re a weaver, happy weaving! If you’re not, do you want to be?
