So over the weekend I went to a bookstore. I seem to go about once every three or four months just to be inspired. What usually happens is I buy a few magazines that are my favorites, or new to me. Sometimes an interesting book. Anyway. when I get home, I’m eager to read them all at once, but of course I can’t. I spent time over the weekend perusing the magazines and books, and more or less just letting new influences soak in. Here’s a photo of my cache after the bookstore visit.
Womankind is one of my favorites, if you’ve never read it I recommend it! Lots of great stories and short inspirational messages, and great photographs. This issue has several stories about people who live in Cuba, and I found that very interesting. What Women Create is new to me, but oh, it’s delightful reading personal stories of women creating art in different media. Intimate stories with lots of photos of studios and creative spaces, an explosion of color! The last magazine is project based, but has given me some inspiration for new products. I was attracted to the book because I find I’m leaning toward more minimalist tendencies in my home decor and life style, so that title attracted me. I will attest to the truth that decorating in a minimalist style creates a cleaner environment and less anxiety in the space I live in. I recommend exploring how it may work for you.
Here’s the quilt I placed on my wall above the fireplace for spring.
The funny think is the quilt is about 2-3 years old, and I made it to be hung in this landscape direction you see below.
But my surface for hanging quilts on this wall required me to hang it in the opposite direction. Imagine my surprise when I loved the different perspective created by turning the quilt in a vertical f0rmat!
Here’s a few more photos, closeups, so you can see the quilting I did on this piece. You’ll notice it is raw edge appliqué.
Hope you enjoyed these inspiration ideas. Do you have any inspirational magazines recommendations for me? I do love finding new sources to look for on my next visit to the bookstore.
