Today I’m continuing with quilts number 3 and 4 from my old photos stories series. Here’s number 3.
You may notice this is the elderly couple sitting on the side of the last quilt. shown in the previous post. I placed them sitting on the porch of the old house in the original photo.
I added an old car, some nature photos, and flower photos from my own garden. Lots of quilting and highlights with inktense pencils. Be sure to see the small girl’s image in the upper right corner. The text at the bottom says “She thought of her daughter once helping in the garden. He thought of where he’d go if he only had a car”. Even in the fifties when I was young we often spent time sitting on the front porch on summer eves, before the days of mobile devices. We’d play games in the yard and watch the cars go by until the lightning bugs came out to be captured in glass jars with holes punched in the lids. If we were lucky, we’d have a popsicle or ice cream bar.
Here’s quilt number 4, in which I carried over the girl’s photo to be the central figure.
I had fun with this one, enlarging the girl to full figure and coming up with a comment to match the expression on her face. I placed her at the end of a dirt driveway outside an old country home. I added the orange self dyed fabric, these were old sheets I purchased at a thrift shop. The comment reads “It’s always dusty around here. Even my sandwich gets dusty if I eat it outside”. Be sure to notice the young lady sitting by the edge of this quilt, she’ll be the star in next weeks quilt number 5. Thanks for reading along!
