It’s January 6th. It feels like it should be later into January to me, but I think that’s because of the lost week between Christmas and New Years which feels like a place of waiting.
In my world it’s sort of Christmas yet, but not. And sort of New Years already, but not. Here’s what I’ve been doing as I adjust to 2019.
First I made my first fabric covered journal…Not too bad, and I’m going to use it for collage work when the mood strikes me. I sewed the signatures into the spine by machine, I wasn’t ready to get into the hand binding methods. Altho those methods seems interesting. Truth is, I’m not into hand sewing. But that’s for another post. You can see the photos of my journal and my first collage entry I made on New Years Eve. Perhaps an admonition for the new year???? something to ponder.
I’m also warping the rigid heddle loom for a set of four kitchen towels in a striped pattern. That’s in progress as you see in the photo. a 5 yard length of warp is LONG.
Secondly, we’ve been blessed many times over with springlike weather, which is a big deal here in northern Indiana. We should be knee deep in snow, but instead I’m taking walks without boots or heavy outer wear. It’s delightful! Yesterday I took a lot of photos in the woods behind my home and I’m sharing some of them here. I even had coffee on the back patio, and had to fight the urge to grab a rake and start cleaning up the gardens. I could get used to this! But I’m also a part time realist, and I’m ready for this spring bubble to burst whether I want it to or not.
So altho I’ve been busy, I started the New Year with more of a whimper than a BANG. Dabbled in creativity but no stress, no pressure, just sort of drifted into things. Which is good, because my hope for 2019 is to DRIFT, instead of demand accomplishments. It’s a little hard to develop this approach, but I think I can do it with a little practice, and so far, I love the freedom it has brought me. Do you see yourself in these remarks?
